Fuel Surcharge
Changes in fuel prices have resulted in increased overall costs for the air express industry, necessitating the introduction of a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed to align with movements in fuel prices.

Based on the Rotterdam (ARA) index of March 2010 of 212.67 cents/gallon, the Air Fuel Surcharge for August 2010 will be 12.5%Due to the continuing rise of fuel prices DHL has found it necessary to implement a fuel surcharge.
A flexible surcharge took effect from 1 July 2004 and the surcharge will rise, fall or be removed in line with movements in fuel prices (see table below). Details of the surcharge will be updated each month on this site.
The fuel surcharge will apply to the net invoiced amount of all shipments. The surcharge will be based on the monthly average spot prices for Kerosene/jet fuel (Rotterdam ARA), as published by the US Department of Energy (www.eia.doe.gov). Prices are expressed in (USD) cents per US gallon.
The fuel surcharge will vary in 0.5% steps and will be updated on a monthly basis according to the following scale:

| $1.55 | $1.65 | 5.50% |
| $1.65 | $1.75 | 6.00% |
| $1.75 | $1.85 | 6.50% |
| $1.85 | $1.95 | 7.00% |
| $1.95 | $2.05 | 7.50% |
| $2.05 | $2.15 | 8.00% |
| $2.15 | $2.25 | 8.50% |
| $2.25 | $2.35 | 9.00% |
Note: There will be a 1 month lag in the application of the index. For example, the monthly average price for fuel in December 2004 will be used to determine the applicable surcharge in February 2005. This is due to the release dates of the data.
